Amy Morris begins her first year as assistant coach for the Nicholls volleyball team. A native of Michigan City, Ind., Morris has been involved with volleyball on numerous levels. After completing a stellar high school career in which she was named the 2001 Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Indiana, Morris moved on to play at Penn State for her freshman and sophomore seasons. She then transferred to Tennessee, where Morris was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, as a junior, as well as earning First Team All-SEC honors. The AVCA also tabbed Morris to its Honorable Mention All-America team. During her senior season with the Lady Vols, Morris helped lead the team to the Final Four, in addition to garnering Second Team All-SEC honors, as well as breaking three team records along the way. Upon completion of her college career, Morris entered the coaching ranks in the fall of 2006, being named the Head Volleyball Coach at the College of the Southwest, in Hobbs, N.M. In her first and only season, she led the Mustangs to a third place conference finish. Morris then left the College of the Southwest to pursue a professional playing career. She played professionally in Puerto Rico for a month, before moving to Indonesia, where she competed on the professional level from March 2007 to May 2007. During this time, Morris was selected to play in the All-Star game, held in Bali. Morris is single and resides in Thibodaux. |
