Chris Laird enters his fourth season at the helm of the Nicholls Colonels volleyball team, having posted an 18-63 mark through his first three seasons with the program. Laird came to Nicholls in 2005 after spending two years as an assistant coach at the University of South Alabama. While with the Jaguars, Laird was a head-coach-in-training, handling a plethora of responsibilities including recruiting, assisting with team practices, travel arrangements and game management. While in Mobile, Laird headed the Spikewerks Volleyball Club, a Junior Olympic Volleyball Club for girls. The 35-year old Laird has worked with many club teams and camps, including those at Auburn, Alabama and Louisville. Prior to his arrival at South Alabama, Laird worked one season at Pensacola Junior College. Earlier in his career, he spent time as a volunteer assistant coach and, later, an assistant coach at the University of Southern Mississippi, as well as at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. A native of Tylertown, Miss., Laird earned his Bachelor of Science in sports administration from Southern Miss in 1997 and went on to earn his MBA from Southern Miss in 2001. Laird is single and resides in Thibodaux. |
