BOURGEOIS SET TO COMPETE AT NCAA MIDEAST REGIONALS

May 24, 2007

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Sophomore javelin thrower Leslie Bourgeois will attempt to qualify for next month's NCAA Championships, as she will compete at the NCAA Mideast Regionals on Friday at the University of Missouri's Audrey J. Walton Stadium.

Field events begin at 11 a.m., while the javelin trials and final are set for a 5 p.m. start.

Bourgeois became the first Nicholls athlete to win an individual conference championship as she claimed the 2007 Southland Conference javelin title earlier this month. Her season-best toss of 154-01 not only won her the championship, but also ranks her seventh in the region and 41st nationally.

The top five finishers in each region receive an automatic bid the NCAA Championships that are being held in Sacramento, Calif.

Last season, the Raceland native just missed the National meet, as Bourgeois finished in seventh place in her regional meet with a throw of 151-09.
