May 6, 2007 NACOGDOCHES, Tex. - The Nicholls outdoor track and field team completed the 2007 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships with 14 total team points.
Sophomore javelin thrower Leslie Bourgeois captured the javelin crown on Saturday evening to score 10 of the Colonels points, before freshman high jumper Chelsea Dockrey chipped in another three points for a sixth place finish in the high jump.
On Sunday, the Nicholls 4X100-meter relay team and 4X400-meter relay team finished in eighth and ninth place, respectively. The 4X100-meter relay team of Lauren Bazunu, LaNation McCray, Jarina Guilbeau and Dominique Harris improved upon their previous school-high performance with a time of 49.05 at the SLC Championships, while the 4X400-meter relay team of Dockrey, Latasha Bishop, McCray and Nicoya Hutcherson completed the event in 3:58.47, moving into second place all-time on the Nicholls career performance list.
Texas State finished the championships with 177.50 total team points to capture the title, while Sam Houston State (124) and tournament-host Stephen F. Austin (123) finished in second and third place.
Although the Colonels' season comes to an end, Bourgeois will continue hers, as she will participate in the NCAA Mideast Regionals on May 25-26 in Columbia, Mo.
