February 16, 2007 HOUSTON, Tex. - After day one of the 2007 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Nicholls Colonels are tied for eighth place with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with three points each.
Stephen F. Austin currently leads the way with 56 points, while Sam Houston State and Texas State are tied for second with 42 points each.
Texas-San Antonio is in fourth place with 25 points, closely followed by Texas-Arlington (24 points) and Lamar (23 points) in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Southeastern Louisiana sits in the seventh spot with 12 points, with Nicholls and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi tied for eighth place with three points. McNeese State and Northwestern State round out the field tied for 10th with two points apiece.
Chelsea Dockrey scored the Colonels' three points on the evening, after a high jump of 5-03.25 placed her in sixth place.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Rahjanaye Bailey and Jarina Guilbeau set personal bests with times of 9.46 and 9.50, respectively. While Bailey still sits in first place all-time in the Nicholls record books, Guilbeau moved into second on the all-time performance list with her new time.
Other Nicholls performers included: Lauren Bazunu (200-meter dash, 28.59, 34th), La-Nation McCray (400-meter dash, 1:01.34, 19th), Nicoya Hutcherson (400-meter dash, 1:02.49, 21st), Latasha Bishop (400-meter dash, 1:03.92, 23rd), Dominique Harris (long jump, 16-00.25, 21st; pentathlon, 2644 points, 18th) and Sabrina Henkes (pentathlon, 2316 points, 19th).
The Colonels will conclude competition on Saturday at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse, with the 3,000-meter run (first event for a Nicholls performer) set to begin at 3:25 p.m.
