January 26, 2007 BATON ROUGE, La. - The Nicholls Indoor Track and Field Team continued to climb their way into the school record books after a strong performance at LSU's Bayou Bengal Invite at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
Sprinter Rahjanaye Bailey set a new personal-best with a time of 9.58 during the preliminary round of the 60-meter hurdles. The time also set a school record, which she had previously set just last week in Houston. She moved on to the finals, and finished in 15th place, after a time of 9.76. Aly'ce Peters (10.10) and Sabrina Henkes (10.25) moved into third and fourth place, respectively, after their preliminary times in the same event. Peters' time of 10.10 was a personal-best for her.
After tying the school record just last week, Chelsea Dockrey managed to move into sole possession of first place at Nicholls, after a high jump of 5-04.25. The jump, which is a new personal-best, gave her a second place finish in the event.
La-Nation McCray was another Colonel to move into the top five of the Nicholls record books, after a time of 2:35.11 (10th place) in the 800-meter run.
Other Nicholls performers included Eunice Jepkogei (mile run, 5:53.91, 15th), Latasha Bishop (200-meter dash, 28.09, 28th; 400-meter dash, 1:05.52, 21st), Lauren Bazunu (200-meter dash, 28.47, 30th), Jarina Guilbeau (400-meter dash, 1:07.95, 24th), Peters (400-meter dash, 1:09.56, 26th), Nicoya Hutcherson (800-meter run, 2:39.14, 13th), Dominique Harris (long jump, 15-11.75, 26th) and Dockrey (long jump, 15-06.25, 27th).
The Colonels return to action on Friday and Saturday (February 2-3), when they participate in the Houston All-Comers in Houston, Texas.
