THIBODAUX, La. - The Colonels accomplished a lot at the Kansas Relays this past weekend in Lawrence, Kansas, but arguably their most monumental achievement was when the 4x200 meter relay team defeated Nebraska. The 4x200 meter relay team of Ashley Carpenter, Leshea Jenkins, La-Nation McCray and Tiffany Nall knocked off Big 12 member Nebraska by holding off the Cornhuskers over the last 30 meters to get the victory. Nicholls ran a 1:41.47 in the event as they edged out Nebraska who ran a time of 1:41.95. "This was a great meet for us in terms of competing hard against some very large schools that have a great tradition of track and field," said head coach Scott Williamson. Also standing out in the event was the 4x100 meter relay team of McCray, Nall, Alycia Johnson and Ashley Carpenter as the squad notched a third place finish by defeating Missouri, Wichita State and Minnesota. The shuttle hurdle squad of Dominique Harris, Rahjanaye Bailey, Jarina Guilbeau and Sabrina Henkes also earned a third place finish as they placed behind Illinois and Nebraska. Despite the horrible weather conditions, Charlotte Everhardt clocked in a personal best 38:55 in the 10000 meter which netted her eighth place in the event and ranks her second in Nicholls' record books. Chelsea Dockery also made strides in the competition as she just missed the 5-7 jump that would have placed her in the Top-5 at the event with jumpers from the Big 12 and Big 10 conferences. The Colonels will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Lafayette, La. for the Louisiana-Lafayette Twilight. ##### |
