April 6, 2007 HUNTSVILLE, Tex. - The Lady Colonels fell to Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State on Saturday by the score of 6-1.
"Sam Houston State is well coached and has a very talented team," said head coach Jim Hunter. "It was good for Karlijn to pick up her win in singles, and Celine played hard as well against their number one in the lineup."
The Colonels (8-8, 3-5) only win in singles play came from freshman Karlijn Sissingh at the No. 5 spot in the lineup. Sissingh defeated the Bearkats' Patricia Manzur 6-3, 6-3 to avoid the shut out. Senior Celine Stenger went the distance with Irina Sotnikova in No.1 singles, but fell in the 10-point tie breaker.
