March 10, 2007 SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - Having only five players in their repertoire on Saturday and having to play up in the lineup because of the shortage, Nicholls took Texas-San Antonio to three ten point tie breakers, but lost 6-1 to the Roadrunners.
"We were at a disadvantage with not having enough players to compete, but we were not at a disadvantage with effort," said head tennis coach Jim Hunter. "UTSA is very well coached and very disciplined."
With the disadvantage, the Colonels had to forfeit a singles competition and a doubles match.
Senior Celine Stegner, who plays in the Colonels' No.1 position in the lineup, did not play today due to injury, and every other player had to move up a position as a result. Picking up the lone singles win playing in place of Stegner was freshman Sara Hanesch who defeated the Roadrunners No.1 Nathalie Wallin. Hanesch beat Wallin 4-6, 7-5, 1(7).
