Senior Kat Harrell was named SLC Hitter of the Week

FRISCO, Tex. - After helping lead the Colonels to the postseason, senior Kat Harrell was named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week announced the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Harrell batted .583 (7-of-12) against the Islanders with her best performance coming in Saturday's first game as she went 4-for-4 with three runs scored. The accolade marks only the third time in her career that she has received the weekly honor and second time this season.

Southland Conference Announces Softball Players Of The Week

FRISCO, Texas - After helping Nicholls State secure the final spot in this week's SLC Tournament, Kat Harrell was named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, while Texas State's Ragan Blake earns Pitcher of the Week honors. Harrell wins her third career honor and second of the season, while Blake wins the honor for the eighth time in her career.

Hitter of the Week:

Kat Harrell, Nicholls State Sr., SS, League City, Texas

Harrell led the Colonels to a series sweep over the Islanders this past weekend with a .583 batting average, five runs, three steals and flawless defense. Nicholls entered the weekend needing one win to secure the last seed in the tournament and got it in game one on Saturday, but the Colonels didn't stop there as strong play led by Harrell helped secure the sixth spot with the sweep. Harrell's best game of the weekend came in the first win on Saturday as she went 4-for-4 with three runs scored.

Honorable Mention: Samantha Chumchal, UT Arlington, Kelly Corliss, Northwestern State, Krista Sitka, UTSA.

Pitcher of the Week:

Ragan Blake, Texas State Sr., P, Missouri City, Texas

Blake allowed just one run in two games over the weekend, including a streak of pitching 13 scoreless innings to pick up both of Texas State's wins at McNeese State on the weekend. She improved to 20-10 overall and 16-3 in Southland Conference play with the wins. Blake pitched a seven strikeout shutout in the series opener, scattering five hits, and pitched six shutout innings before allowing a run in the seventh inning of the series finale that Texas State won 4-1. She struck out nine batters in the game while allowing only six hits.

Honorable Mention: Laura Jones, UT Arlington, Danye Holmes, UTSA, Katey Barr, Northwestern State.
