Huntsville, Texas - Three goals in the first period and one in the second would be all Sam Houston State would need to defeat the Nicholls State soccer team 4-1 in Huntsville Friday night as the Colonels will wrap up the 2007 season Sunday against Stephen F. Austin. Junior Sara West would score the lone goal for the Colonels(2-16-1, 1-7-1) in the 60th minute on a penalty kick. The Bearkats struck early, scoring in only the third minute of play from the foot of Yoanna Garcia. Garcia would then get an assist on a Raquel Bueno goal in the 29th minute. Ten minutes later, Alison Oakland got a goal of her own from a Tofi Chavez pass to put the Bearkats up 3-0. Nastacha Pollack would finish the game with an unassisted goal for the final score of the match. SHSU would get 22 shots in the entire game to the Colonels nine, and goalie Molly Mersereau stopped six of those shots while giving up the four Bearkat goals. Gametime in Nacogdoches is set for 2 p.m. |
