THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's golf team will host nine teams at its annual L.D.R. Investments/Lady Colonel Collegiate, Oct. 22-23. The tournament will be contested at the 6,012-yard, par-72, Ellendale Country Club in Houma, La. After a three-week break, where the Lady Colonels placed 12th in an 18-team field, Nicholls will play in its only home event of the 2007-08 campaign. The field for the two-day event features five of the eight teams in the Southland Conference, including the reigning SLC Champion Sam Houston State University. Defending champion South Alabama, as well as Centenary, Troy University and Jackson State University are also among the field of contenders. "We're really excited with the field we drew this year," said head coach and tournament director James Schilling. "I would especially like to thank L.D.R. Investments (the tournament sponsor), Rob Bradley (Ellendale's Director of Golf Operations), the Ellendale Board of Directors and it's members for allowing to use their facility for this tournament." This will mark the sixth year this tournament has taken place. The tournament kicked off in 2001 at The Bridges at Casino Magic in Bay St. Louis, where it was held for four consecutive years. In 2005, due to Hurricane Katrina the tournament was cancelled. The tournament picked up once again in 2006, but was moved to Ellendale Country Club. "Ellendale is one of the finest courses in this area," said Schilling. "Scott Guidry, the Course Superintendent, and his staff have done a tremendous job in getting the course ready, especially for the amount of rain we have had in the last few days." In the lineup for the Lady Colonels will be senior's Natalie Robinson and Daniele Dunlop, junior Theunette Van der Walt, sophomore's Emiley Patton and Jessica Marquart and freshman Elyse Kinley. Tee times begin on Mon. and Tues. at 8 a.m. ### |
