October 24, 2006 HOUMA, La. - The South Alabama Lady Jaguars continued to dominate the eight-team field at the Lady Colonel Collegiate Tuesday afternoon at Ellendale Country Club. The Lady Jaguars took home the tournament crown after shooting a 598 for the tournament, for a 23-stroke victory.
"I thought the ladies played extremely well for 36 holes," said South Alabama head coach T.J. Jackson. "We had our ups and downs, but mostly ups, and when we did get down, we had enough character to come back and make up for it."
McNeese State finished in the runner-up spot after shooting a 621 for the tournament. Central Arkansas (624), Louisiana-Monroe (626) and tournament-host Nicholls (648) rounded out the top five.
Centenary (654), Jackson State (658) and Troy (675) filled out the remainder of the field.
South Alabama's Elin Andersson shot an even-par 72 in the final round, to take home the individual tournament crown with a two-day total of 146.
"I am really happy to win my first college tournament," said Andersson. "I ran into a little trouble in the second round, but was able to regroup with the help of my teammates. I am happy that the team was able to win, especially after last weekend, when we won our first tournament in three years."
Central Arkansas' Christina Lecuyer (76-71) and Jackson State's Shasta Averyhardt (72-75) each shot 147, to finish one stroke behind Andersson.
South Alabama's Sara Marti (149) and Dara Newell (150) finished three and four shots back, respectively, followed by Maggie Welch (McNeese State), Sara Larsson (Louisiana-Monroe) and Sara Ekermann (McNeese State), at six shots back.
Louisiana-Monroe's Angela Drane (80-73), Nicholls' Theunette Van der Walt (78-75) and South Alabama's Michelle Toth (73-80) tied for the ninth spot, after shooting a 153 for the tournament.
