October 23, 2006 HOUMA, La. - The South Alabama Lady Jaguars finished with a 295 in the opening round of the Lady Colonel Collegiate, Monday afternoon at Ellendale Country Club, to hold a 17-stroke advantage over the rest of the eight-team tournament field heading into Tuesday's final round.
Central Arkansas is currently is second place with 312, followed by Louisiana-Monroe (315), McNeese State (316) and Jackson State (322), to round out the top five.
Troy University (329), Nicholls (331) and Centenary College (332) fill out the remainder field.
Jackson State's Shasta Averyhardt is atop the individual leaderboard after shooting a 34 on the back nine, to go along with her score of 38 on the front nine, for a round of 72. South Alabama's Michelle Toth and Darah Newell finished one-shot back with rounds of 73. Elin Andersson, of South Alabama, shot a 35 on the back nine to finish two shots behind the leader.
McNeese State's Sara Marti and South Alabama's Sara Ekermann will begin tomorrow's final round three shots behind the leader after an opening round of 75. Completing the top ten on the leaderboard are Christina Lecuyer (Central Arkansas), Merielle LeBlanc (Jackson State) and Marylou Soltesz (Louisiana-Monroe), with scores of 76, and Central Arkansas' Nicole Forshner, who finished the day with a 77.
