MONTGOMERY, Ala. - It's the old saying, "You save the best for last." The Nicholls State Lady Colonels golf team did exactly that when it hit the course for its final tournament of the fall season. For the first time this year, the Lady Colonels had three of their four players shoot in the 70's, to come away with a season best 308 in the first round of the Troy Invitational contested at the 5,926-yard, par-72 Arrowhead Country Club. Maggie Green of Evansville University holds the lead after round one after firing a one-over par 73, while seven players are just one shot behind after shooting a two-over par 74, including Nicholls senior Natalie Robinson. Jacksonville State lead the field of 18 after shooting an opening round of 304, while Nicholls (308), Evansville University (309), Tennessee Tech (310) and Belmont round out the top five. Austin Peay University (313) sits in sixth, while the remaining field of 19 consist of Troy University (313), Murray State University (314), Jackson State University (316), Birmingham-Southern University (319), Centenary (321), Lipscomb University (322), Northern Colorado (324), Western Kentucky (324), Montevallo (327), Houston Baptist (347) and Tennessee State (396).
