LADY COLONELS GOLF FINISHES FIFTH IN HOME EVENT

HOUMA, La. - Sam Houston State's Wendy Joyner (35-34) came away with a par on the first hole of a sudden death playoff to defeat Central Arkansas' Nicole Forshner (35-34), who bogied the hole, at the L.D.R. Investments/Lady Colonel Collegiate on Tuesday to secure a one-stroke victory and secure the individual championship.

Due to heavy rains resulting in unplayable course conditions at Ellendale Country Club on Monday, Tournament Director James Schilling and Ellendale's Director of Golf Rob Bradley determined the event would be shortened from 36 to 18 holes late Monday afternoon. After play was suspended at 1:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon, the 48 players in the event resumed play on Tuesday at 10 a.m. to finish the round.

"I would like to thank the staff at Ellendale Country Club for all their hard work during this tournament," said Nicholls head coach and Tournament Director James Schilling. "They did an exceptional job getting the course playable considering the amount of rain we received on Monday."

Defending Southland Conference champions Sam Houston State won the event after carding a four-over par 292, while Central Arkansas (302) and Lamar University (303) rounded out the top three. Last year's tournament champion South Alabama finished fourth with a 305, while Nicholls State (314), McNeese State (320), Jackson State (325), Troy University (326) and Centenary College (328) rounded out the field of nine.

Theunette Van der Walt led the Lady Colonels with a tie for sixth place after carding a 74. Other Nicholls' golfers included Daniele Dunlop (T17-78), Emiley Patton (T26-80), Natalie Robinson (T30-82), Elyse Kinley (T35-83) and Jessica Marquart (T-43-87), who played as an individual.

The Lady Colonels will close out their fall season next week when they travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take part in the Troy University Invitational held at Arrowhead Country Club on Oct. 29-30.
