HUNTSVILLE, Texas - After Mother Nature forced the opening round of the Sam Houston State Women's Golf Invitational to be shortened to just 12 holes on Monday, play was resumed on Tuesday and junior Theunette Van der Walt made the best of the 36 hole tournament by firing a 158 (82-76) to finish 19th at the 6,143 yard par 72 Raven's Nest Golf Course. Other Lady Colonel golfers included senior Daniele Dunlop (T26-159), sophomore Emiley Patton (T41-164), freshman Elyse Kinley (T46-166, who played as an individual, senior Natalie Robinson (50th-168) and sophomore Jessica Marquart (56th - 175). Lamar University won the event after shooting a 597, while the rest of the field of 12 consisted of Oklahoma City (616), Redlands (622), tournament host Sam Houston State (624), Centenary (629), UTSA Blue (630), Central Arkansas (631), Nicholls (649), McLennon (650), Northwood (668), UTSA Orange (674) and Houston Baptist (708). Therese Nilsson of Lamar won the medalist honors after posting a one-under par 143, while Hillary Ziegler of Lamar (146) and Ana Carrillo of Sam Houston State (148) rounded out the top three. The Lady Colonels will take a two-week break before teeing it up on March 28 in Braselton, Ga., at the Larry Nelson College Invitational held at Chateau Elan Golf Course. ### |
