THIBODAUX, La. - The Colonel women's basketball program announced Wednesday the signing of two players for the 2008-09 season.

Danielle Douglas and Nadia Cox, both out of Hahnville High School in Hahnville, La., will join the Lady Colonels in the fall.

"We're excited to have two girls from the area become a part of the Colonel family together," said assistant coach Kelli Cofield. "We are looking for them to bring the team chemistry that they've established playing together for the last four years to our program."

Douglas, a 5-9 small foward, averaged 8.7 ppg, 7.8 rpg and 2.3 spg this past season for coach Kevin Robicheaux's squad.

"Danielle brings athleticism to our frontcourt," noted Cofield. "She's able to handle the ball, defend at this level and finish around the basket. We're excited about what she will do for us next season."

Cox, a 5-7 small guard, poured in 10.7 ppg and grabbed 4.6 rpg last season at Hahnvill HS. She dished out 3.7 rpg and had 2.2 spg during 2007-08.

"Nadia is a tremendous athlete," added Cofield. "She is able to get to the rim and finish. Her quickness is going to be an asset for us next year."

This past season, Hahnville finished 28-7, reaching the semifinal round of the state tournament. In the last two years, the club has reached the quarterfinal round of the state tournament.
