LORMAN, Miss. - The Colonels men's and women's teams closed out their 2007 campaign with victories at Alcorn State on Wednesday afternoon. The men's team defeated the Braves 4-2, while the Lady Colonels won their match 4-0.

"What the team accomplished this season was phenomenal. The men improved their win total from a year ago, and the women won ten matches which is nine more then they won a year ago," said head coach Jim Hunter. "Both teams took a huge step in the right direction for Nicholls."

The Colonels (8-10, 0-6) had success in singles competition against Alcorn State as they won all four of their points in solo play. Emerging victorious in singles were freshmen Eric Fisher, Phenyo Matong, Sami Mouline and junior Ricardo van Bolderik.

The Lady Colonels (10-9, 4-6) had similar fortunes in singles, but unlike the men, the Lady Colonels won the doubles point in their match. The duo of senior Adeline Vallet and freshman Sara Hanesch took down Avernelle Holder and Swetha Deveraj 8-4, while freshmen Sanja Stanojcic and Nicole September defeated Felicia Chien and Martina Garda 8-0.

Hanesch, Vallet, and Stanojcic each posted singles wins while the other matches were not played for the Lady Colonels to close out their season with a victory and a 10-9 record.
