BATON ROUGE, La. - The men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Southern and picked up wins with the women's squad defeating the Jaguars 7-0 while the men prevailed 4-3.

"The men were behind most of the way in their match, and it was good for them to fight back and get the win on the road. The women just played outstanding," said head coach Jim Hunter. "Southern has a good program and great coach."

The Lady Colonels (8-7, 3-4) swept all aspects of their competition against the Lady Jaguars by winning the doubles point and every singles match. Senior Celine Stenger posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over the Lady Jaguars' Janelle Mosley in the No. 1 position in the lineup.

Her success filtered down through the lineup as all the Lady Colonels earned victories in their singles matches. Posting impressive victories were freshman Sanja Stanojcic and Karlijn Sissingh. Stanojcic recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Sydney Lartigue, while Sissingh defeated Khyelle Anthony 6-1, 6-0.

The Colonels (6-9, 0-6) picked up their second consecutive victory with their 4-3 win over Southern. Nicholls lost the doubles point to the Jaguars, and lost No.1 singles when Southern's Marlin Gichie retired sophomore Vlad Popa. Popa was unable to continue in his match because of stomach flu.

The rest of the Colonel lineup picked up the pace as freshman Eric Fisher defeated Onkabetse Matong in the No. 2 position in the lineup, and freshman Phenyo Matong defeated Bino Rasedisa. Junior Ricardo van Bolderik defeated Ian Alcee, but freshman Sami Mouline fell to Elvis Espinal in three sets to even the score up heading into the singles finale.

Freshamn Maxime Bouhoulle defeated Kashwayne Nelson in the No.6 slot to lift the Colonels to a 4-3 victory. It marked the second time this season that the Colonels beat Southern. The last match up that took place between the two teams was on March 16, and the Colonels took that contest 5-2
