March 12, 2007 THIBODAUX, La. - The Colonels' Vlad Popa and Eric Fisher posted impressive wins in doubles and in singles on Sunday, but Nicholls as a team fell 5-2 to the Mavericks of Texas-Arlington.
"We played well against one of the best teams in our conference," said head tennis coach Jim Hunter. "Vlad and Eric played well, and the rest of the team gave it their best."
Popa and Fisher teamed up in doubles and took down the Mavericks best pair in Daniel Omana and Gonzalo Bienzobas by the score of 8-5. The Colonels fell in the next two doubles matches to lose the doubles point.
The Colonels' Popa picked up a victory in the No.1 position in the lineup against Omana, and teammate Fisher followed suit with a victory of his own over Alberto Agis. Popa and Fisher's wins were the only two victories in singles play for the Colonels on the afternoon.
