April 17, 2007 KERRVILLE, Tex. - Lamar had four players shoot in the 60s today, led by a 65 by Dawie Van Der Walt as they shot a team 284 total for a two-day total of 552, to take a 24 shot advantage at the conclusion of day two action at the Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship at Comanche Trace Golf Club.
Van Der Walt is now the individual leader at seven under par, with a 137 two-day total. Cardinals Dusty Smith and Oliver Bekker each shot 67, while Casey Clendenon shot 69 today. Bekker is second individually with a two-day total of 138, while Clendenon is tied for third individually, with a two-day total of 138. Justin Harding shot 70 today for the Cardinals and is fifth individually with a 141 two-day total.
Southeastern Louisiana is second, following a 286-team total today. The Lions were led by Peter O'Keeffe's 68 and Hugo Leon's 71, as they stand at 576 after two days. Leon is sixth individually with a 142 two day total and O'Keefe is tied for seventh at 143.
UTSA is in at third with a two-day total of 581, following a 291 team total today. Thomas Kearney shot one of seven rounds in the 60s today with a 69 and has a two-day total of 139, with a five under par total, tying for third individually.
Texas State got two 71s today from Bobby Hutcherson and Tyler Barnes-Wolf, while Michael Carnes had an even par round of 72, as the Bobcats shot 287 today, improving by 22 strokes.
Sam Houston State got a 69 from Brandon Frankhouser today, as the team improved by 20 strokes, standing with a two-day total of 598.
Texas-Arlington shot 302 today and were paced by 74s from Michael Van De Venter and Bryan Baker.
Stephen F. Austin improved by 12 shots today, shooting a 303 team total. The Lumberjacks were led by Rick Wikenfeld's 74 today.
In eighth is McNeese State, following a 303 total today, an 18-stroke improvement after day one. Justin Ougel shot a team best 74 today.
Central Arkansas made a 21 shot improvement today, getting a 71 today from Matt Montgomery, for a two-day total of 625.
Nicholls improved their total by 18 shots today, shooting 311 for a two-day total of 640. Marty Reed led the team with a 75 today and has a two-day total of 153. James Terrebonne (162) currently sits in 45th place, while Brandon Henry (163) and Nat Bhanthumachinda (164) closely follow in 46th and 47th place, respectively. Donny Schmitt (166) is in 50th place.
The final round is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
