November 6, 2006 MANY, La. - The Nicholls men's golf team shot a 315 in the first round of the Battle on the Bend, to head into Monday's second round in 11th place at the Cypress Bend Golf Course in Many, La.
Texas-San Antonio is currently in first place with a 298, while Baylor and McNeese State closely follow in a tie for second place with a 299. Tournament-host Louisiana-Lafayette, Sam Houston State and New Orleans tied for the fourth spot with 302.
North Texas (303), Texas State (309), Texas-Pan American (310) and Stephen F. Austin (314) came in at Nos. 7-10, respectively, while Nicholls (315) and Centenary (319) fill out the remainder of the tournament field.
McNeese State's Jeremy Jeansonne and North Texas' Dustin Thompson are tied atop the individual leaderboard with 71s, while Kyle Tudi of Texas-Pan American is currently in third place with a 72.
Marty Reed leads the Colonels in a tie for 31st place with a 77, while Nat Bhanthumachinda and James Terrebonne each shot a 79 in the first round to tie for the 43rd spot. Donny Schmitt and Brandon Henry both tied for 50th place with a round of 80.
The second round of the Battle on the Bend will begin on Monday.
