COLONELS FINISH IN NINTH PLACE AT SOUTHERN SHOWDOWN

McCALLA, Ala. - The Nicholls men's golf team shot a 284 in the final round of the Buffalo Rock/Southern Showdown to finish in ninth place, Tuesday afternoon at the Bent Brook Golf Course.

Murray State took home the tournament crown with an 836. Southern Illinois finished three strokes back to come in at second place, followed by Birmingham Southern (846), Berry College (847) and Wofford College (850) to round out the top five.

Tennessee Tech (854) finished in sixth place, while Evansville and Samford tied for the seventh spot with 861. Nicholls (865), Tennessee-Martin (870), Jackson State (289) and Army (873) came in at Nos. 9-12, respectively, while Montevallo (883), Birmingham Southern (897), Samford (907), Savannah State (907) and Faulkner (916) fill out tournament's bottom five.

Southern Illinois' Andy Rauscher shot a 12-under par (201) to win the individual crown. Jerry Price of Murray State finished one-shot back (202) to come in a close second, followed by Birmingham Southern's J.T. Clendenin (205) in third place.

Donny Schmitt led the Colonels in a tie for 18th place, after shooting an even par (213) for the tournament. Nat Bhanthumachinda and Mary Reed each finished with a 217, to tie for 38th place, followed by James Terrebonne (220), tied for the 46th spot and Robbie Ocmond (241) in 93rd place.

The Nicholls men's golf team will conclude their 2006 fall schedule on November 5-7 when they participate in the Battle on the Bend at the Cypress Bend Golf Course, hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette.
