BRASELTON, GA - After firing a 319 during the first 18 holes, the Nicholls men's golf team came away with a 309 during the final 18 holes of the 36-hole first round to finish with a 628 which puts it 12th place. The Colonels have a chance to move up in the field during the final round as they only trail the top-five team by 13 shots.

The Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational is held at par 71, 6,735 yard Chateau Resort on the Woodlands Course.

Leading the way for Nicholls was sophomore Ebenhaezer Van der Walt, who finished the first round tied for 19th place after firing a 153 (78-75). Other Colonel golfers included senior Marty Reed (T32 - 76-81=157), senior James Terrebonne (T41 - 85-75=160), freshman Parham Booker (T51 - 80-82=162) and sophomore Robbie Ocmond ((T59 - 86-78=164).

Tournament host Kennesaw State hold the overall team lead after the first round by shooting a 581 (296-285), while Campbell University trails by 24 shots after posting a 605 (306-299).

Oliver West of Kennesaw State and Chris Wolfe of Armstrong Atlantic University are tied for the lead in the medalist honors after each fired a 1-under par 141 during the first 36 holes.

The tournament will resume on Tuesday, April 1 with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The tournament can be followed live on www.golfstat.com
