THIBODAUX, La. - The Colonels will continue conference play on the road at Texas-Arlington on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Texas Hall. The Colonels (6-11, 1-1) won their conference opener against Stephen F. Austin (13-2, 1-1) 58-57 in overtime at home, but fell on the road at Sam Houston State (13-2, 1-1) last Saturday, 61-51. The conference schedule for Nicholls has the Colonels slated to play four of their first six contests away from Stopher Gym. In last year's game against Texas-Arlington, the Colonels won 83-81 in overtime in Stopher Gym. Nicholls had four players in double-figures with former Colonel Stefan Blaszczynski leading the way with a game-high 27-points. The win over the Mavericks marked the first time that Nicholls had defeated Texas-Arlington in the last seven tries. The Colonels last win over the Mavericks prior to last season came in the 2002-03 campaign when Nicholls won 59-54 in Stopher Gym. Nicholls has not beaten Texas-Arlington in Texas Hall since the 2000-01 season when the Colonels won a nail-bitter, 59-58. Texas-Arlington (10-4, 0-2) entered SLC play with a 10-2 non-conference record that included a win over reigning Sun Belt Conference Champion North Texas, 74-62, in Texas Hall. However, the Mavericks have not started off league play (0-2) on a good note with road losses at Northwestern State (6-10, 2-0) and Central Arkansas (10-4, 1-1). The loss to the Bears was in overtime, 70-68, while the defeat against the Demons was by a mere four points, 86-82. The Mavericks game against the Colonels marks their first home game in conference play, and first since Jan. 2. Texas-Arlington is currently riding a 14-game home win streak that dates back to last season. The Mavericks' Jermaine Griffin enters the game leading the conference in field goal percentage with a mark of .672, and also ranks second in rebounds with a 9.1 per game average. In last year's contest, Griffin led the Mavericks in scoring with 20-points while being held to three rebounds.
