Before joining the Colonels last season as an assistant, Jethro Hillman spent five years with the men's basketball team at the University of Texas Southern as their recruiting coordinator. He was also in charge of implementing defensive schemes, film exchanges, scouting reports of opponents, and served as their academic coordinator. While coaching as an assistant at Texas Southern, Hillman helped guide the Tigers to the SWAC Championship and a birth into the NCAA Tournament in 2003. It was the first time that Texas Southern had accomplished both in eight years. He briefly worked at Temple University in sports promotions and group sales prior to his five seasons with Texas Southern. In 1999, he coached at Delaware State University where he supervised all strength and conditioning workouts, handled film exchange, and oversaw all recruiting as an academic coordinator. In the summers of 1998 and 1999, Hillman worked with the prominent Five Star Basketball Camp in Honesdale, Pa. Hillman, a New York City native, earned his masters degree in kinesiology for Texas Southern in 2005, and he earned his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Miami (Coral Gables, Fl.) in 1998. At Miami, he was the head manager for the Hurricane Basketball Team under Leonard Hamilton. Hillman (31) is a bachelor and resides in Thibodaux, La. |
