Chris Prothro begins his second season as an assistant coach with the Colonels, where he will serve as the pitching coach, camp coordinator and assist with recruiting. Coach Prothro comes to Nicholls from North Iowa Area Community College, where he spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach. Prothro worked primarily with pitchers, catchers and hitters, while also assisting with recruiting. During his two-year stint at North Iowa, Prothro coached three NJCAA All-Americans, two Regional Players of the Year, 16 All-Region performers and 18 players that went on to play at four-year institutions, including nine that signed on with Division I teams. Aside from his day-to-day coaching duties, Prothro was also the academic coordinator, where he produced two Academic All-Americans and 17 Academic All-Region student-athletes. During the last two summers, Prothro served as a bench coach in the prestigious Northwoods Summer Collegiate Wood Bat League. His first stint was in Brainerd, Minn. For the Blue Thunder, while last summer he was in Mankato, Minn. for the Moondogs. In his two-year stint in summer baseball, Prothro coached six post-season all-stars (three pitchers and three position players) and seven players that went on to be drafted or sign a professional contract. Prothro began his coaching career at his alma mater Arkansas State as a student assistant coach, where he served in that capacity assisting with pitchers and catchers. The summer following the completion of his eligibility, Prothro led the North Little Rock Colts (Arkansas American Legion) to their first appearance in the Arkansas American Legion State tournament in five years. Prothro graduated from Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, La., before attending Southland Conference foe Northwestern State in 2000. Prothro played one season for the Demons and helped guide them to a SLC Championship. Prothro spent the next year at Crowder College, where he played for Colonels head coach Chip Durham. During his time at Crowder, Prothro was named team captain and played in the regional tournament. Prothro spent his final two seasons at Arkansas State, where he was a two-year starter and a member of the team that recorded the fourth-most wins in school history his senior year. Born in Shreveport, La., Prothro earned his Bachelor's degree in History from Arkansas State in 2005. Prothro, the son of Chris, Sr. and Shelly, is single and resides in Thibodaux. |
