Ricky Newman enters his second season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Nicholls baseball team. His responsibilities include assisting with the pitchers and catchers, overseeing field maintenance and renovations, as well as monitoring study hall.

As a player, Newman was a two-year letterwinner at Southland Conference foe Southeastern Louisiana. During his two-year stint with the Lions, Newman was a two-year starter at catcher and served as the team captain during his senior year.

Prior to attending Southeastern Louisiana, Newman played at Meridian Community College, where he served as a two-year starter at catcher and helped guide his team to the NJCAA College World Series for two consecutive years.

Newman prepped at Franklinton High School in Franklinton, La., where he was a four-year letterwinner and was named to the All-District team for four seasons.

A native of Franklinton, La., Newman earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Southeastern Louisiana in 2007.
